1. What services does NIVC provide?

Community Employment and Job Placement Services - provide supports for identifying, finding and keeping a job in the community at a competitive wage through the JobLink division.
Community Integration/Circle of Friends - classes and community activities help participants increase their independence and become more actively engaged in the community.
Evaluation and Work Adjustment Training Services – help individuals identify their skills, abilities and interests related to jobs in their community.
Organizational Employment Services – provide vocational training and employment utilizing outsourced contract work from North Iowa. Retail Training – and employment opportunities are also provided at our Affordables Resale Store.
Service Coordination - assists individuals in accessing appropriate services that are available in the community.
Transition Services – assist young people in preparing to successfully assume their adult role in their community.

2. Who receives services at NIVC?

  • Individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment over the age of 16 are eligible to receive services. Among those served are persons with brain injury, vision and hearing impairments, spinal cord injuries, heart conditions, substance abuse problems, depression, and schizophrenia. Also served are single parents with dependent children, older workers, and high school students.

3. Where does funding for NIVC Services, inc. come from?

    NIVC helps employers find great employees.
  • Each program has a different array of funding sources, but a combination of county, state and federal funds pay for the training and support for people with disabilities. As they are able, clients contribute toward the services they receive.

    Historically, NIVC has utilized margins on contract operations to minimize its use of public funds.

    Gifts from individuals, civic and religious organizations, businesses and foundations are always welcome to help us meet the needs of individuals who do not qualify for other types of funding or to help us with equipment and repair needs.

4. Can NIVC help me find a job?

  • NIVC has 2 full-time job developers who assist individuals with barriers to employment in finding a job that matches their skills, abilities and interests. We provide pre-placement assistance with resume writing, career exploration and interviewing skills. After you secure a job, we can provide job coaching to help ensure that you keep the job.

5. Is the Affordables Store part of NIVC Services, inc.?

  • The Affordables Great and Small Store is one of NIVC’s business enterprises. It provides retail training and employment. The store relies on donated merchandise which is processed for resale by program participants. Donations can be dropped off on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9a.m. to 5 p.m. or picked up by appointment, 641-423-7071.

6. How can I help people with disabilities, NIVC and my community?

  • Hire a person with a disability.
  • Donate and shop Affordables.
  • Outsource work with the Work Center.
  • Volunteer.
  • Include NIVC Services, inc. in your giving.
